Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, where the primary objective is to score goals by advancing a ball into the opposing team’s net using primarily feet, although other parts of the body may be used except for the goalkeepers. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with goalposts at each end.

Football is characterized by its rules, known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The sport is governed globally by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), which oversees international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup.

In different regions, “football” can refer to various codes of sport, including association football (soccer in some countries), American football, rugby football, and Australian rules football. However, in most of the world, “football” specifically refers to association football, which is among the most popular and widely followed sports globally, known for its rich history, organized leagues, and international tournaments.
