Athletics

Athletics is a category of competitive sports that includes a variety of physical events primarily focused on running, jumping, throwing, and walking. It encompasses track and field events, road running, cross country running, and race walking. In track and field, events are typically divided into sprints, middle-distance and long-distance running, hurdles, relays, jumps (such as long jump, high jump, and triple jump), and throws (including shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer throw). Athletics is known for its emphasis on individual performance, although there are also team events, particularly in relay races. The discipline is governed by international standards set by organizations such as World Athletics, and it is a prominent feature of the Olympic Games. Athletics not only promotes physical fitness and endurance but also encourages competition, sportsmanship, and personal achievement among participants of all ages.
